I have just completed my first training kilt under the guidance of Paula Duncan and her online kiltmaking course. I have learned so much and am looking forward to the further study that my QEST award has enabled over the next few months. Every stitch and technique was new to me, but meticulously explained by Paula. Much like I felt after spinning my first ever skein of yarn, I know I have a lot to learn and many more kilts to practice before I will be stitching the perfect kilt, but its a great start.
The tartan is Clunie Burn (charcoal) from House of Edgar. Not the easiest one to select as my first as the sett (pattern repeat) is so large, but I didn't appreciate the implications of that at the time...I do now!
Alongside the making I am busy developing ideas for my own handwoven tartan designs, more on that later this month.
